Norfolk – Transit-Oriented Development (TOD)

Purpose: We are one of several Civic Leagues within this area and this will use this as a shared location to post links and resources that may be needed to track city projects, development, and changes that affect our neighborhoods. Currently, this site will primarily be used for any developments within the Norfolk Transit-Oriented Development districts. This will include neighborhoods along the current and proposed Tide Routes in the city of Norfolk or within 1/2 mile of Tide stops. This definition may expand as Norfolk updates the guidelines for what is considered a Transit-Oriented Development.

While Task Forces and working groups are being setup, we will include information on the Military Highway corridor here also. As we get more information on the creation of these groups, and possible membership, we will post that here.

Other local Civic Leagues that may have a use for this information are invited to link to this page. You can also link to https://norfolktod.org which redirects to this page. This may be used as a link to a dedicated site in the future.

Due to the City’s failure to provide information about this development, as well as failing to engage the residents, the residents were forced to seek a legal remedy to attempt to correct a failure that the City Council acknowledged at the meeting on January 29th, 2019.

The below article discusses why we needed to take this action, as well as video from the City Council meeting on January 29th, 2019 where it is discussed how the city short changed the residents. Even with this they voted to approve the re-zoning rather than send it back to correct the errors.
