Notice of Environmental, Site, and Geotechnical Data Collection

The City of Norfolk’s Office of Resilience and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers have partnered to implement the Resilient Norfolk Coastal Storm Risk Management (CSRM) Project to reduce the City’s risk from coastal flooding and damage from nor’easters, hurricanes, and other significant storm events. The City of Norfolk has contracted with Norfolk Resilience Partners (NRP) to perform topographic survey, environmental and geotechnical data collection between December 2024 and June 2025. NRP will drill test borings, perform geotechnical (soil) sampling, and conduct site and environmental surveying within the neighborhood to advance engineering and design for this phase of the CSRM project.

The highlighted sections on the above map show where data collection is scheduled to be completed. Timing of the work will vary based on contractor progress and weather. These investigations are critical to assist the City in developing a design and timeline for this phase of the CSRM project.

Starts: December 2024
Ends: June 2025

Work Hours: 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.; Monday – Friday (excluding events and holidays)

Access: Access to businesses and residences willbe maintained throughout the activities. The City and its contractors will make every effort to minimize disruptions associated with exploratory activities.Contractors may be working close to your propertyline in the existing right-of-way (street) to identifyproperty boundaries, easements, and surface features.Contractors will NOT need to access your building. If access to your property is required, a separate property access agreement will be sent to you (as property owner).

Traffic: There may be temporary restricted road or sidewalk access. Contractors will implement safe traffic control measures.

Site Restoration: All drilling sites will be restored to previous or better condition in accordance with City standards.
