Happy Birthday Civic League!

Happy 63rd birthday Elizabeth Park Civic League!

On April 28th, 1957, residents of Elizabeth park met at the Pine Tree Inn and formed the organization of our Civic League. The officers installed at our first meeting were:

• President: Vernon Bonney
• Vice President: Ena Reed
• Recording Secretary: Gerrie Knight
• Corresponding Secretary: Ira Green
• Treasurer: Melvin Manuel

The Civic League was formed while this area still belonged to Princess Anne County and was not yet incorporated into the city of Norfolk. At the time the Civic League was formed as a social organization and held many events.

With the annexation of this part of Princess Anne County into Norfolk, the Civic League played a key role in obtaining services, and lobbying for improvements and services for the neighborhood.
